East of India

Handcrafted Heritage

Founded in 1991 by John Ayris and Anne Spratling, East of India began with a simple yet transformative encounter in Bali, where a beautifully carved wooden pig inspired a lifelong commitment to bringing exquisite handmade crafts to a global audience.

Today, every piece in our collection—from our delicate porcelain to our intricate wooden treasures—is lovingly designed at their Folkestone studio and crafted by a dedicated “family team” of artisans in Indonesia who preserve traditional skills passed down through generations.

By choosing East of India, you aren’t just acquiring a stunning decorative item; you are supporting sustainable livelihoods and ethical production, where every tree harvested is replanted and environmental stewardship is woven into every stage of creation, from solar-powered UK facilities to the use of recycled packaging. This is more than a brand; it is a celebration of cross-cultural artistry, where British design meets Indonesian craftsmanship to create timeless pieces that tell a story of connection, care, and enduring quality.
