Elders of Clonmel II is Applefest’s fourth book and to keep things fresh, the festival Committee deliberately selected their subjects to give as wide a perspective as possible on Clonmel and its citizens. Instead of a public calloutfor nominations, the Committee chose to approach individuals on the basis of recommendations, led first and foremost by John D Kelly’s intimate knowledge of Clonmel and its citizens. They sought out people who were prominent in the life of Clonmel, as public figures, through the arts, sports, professions or businesses, all of whom contributed in their own way to the pulse of Irish society. This includes a piece on Carrie Acheson which the Committee felt needed to be included, as someone who had dedicated much of her life to public service.
